TREE PARK ENVIRONMENTAL
HERITAGE CENTER

In 2008, Lemon Bay Conservancy entered into partnership with fellow environmental organization, People for Trees, a 501(c)3 established in 1997. Their primary mission is education through children’s programs and tree planting projects throughout the community. The organization is active in advocacy having successfully lobbied the city of North Port to adopt a tree ordinance to enhance the health and beauty of the overall community by retaining or mitigating natural canopies affected by development. People for Trees is not a land trust.

Founder Alice White envisioned the creation of a Tree Park comprised of natural habitat with hands-on learning opportunities for all ages. A small Florida-style center would be constructed as home to tree and nature related activities. The Conservancy is a land trust. Our role would be title holder of land acquired for this project either in perpetuity or as an intermediary to transfer to an appropriate permanent owner such as Sarasota County.

The project is broken into three phases: Land Acquisition; Capital Improvements; Educational Programming.
Our involvement is primarily Phase I
.
